CASTING CALL! Could you be Sleuth's new Bobby?

Southampton’s ZoieLogic Dance Theatre is inviting applications from local young male identifying dancers to audition for their Autumn 2022 tour of dance theatre show SLEUTH. 

Deadline for applications: Tuesday 26th July, 10pm
Audition Date: Saturday 30th July, 3pm-7.30pm, Southampton

The company is looking for a young male identifying dancer aged or to play 11/12 years old, with some dance and performance experience, preferably in dance theatre, contemporary or lyrical dance. They must be available in September and October 2022 for all the performance and rehearsal dates specified.

Aspiring Bobby’s must be happy to dance with other adult professional dancers and on their own as there is a solo in the show; confident with partner work; able to show emotions through movement; learn and remember dance routines quickly; work well with being given notes; be focused and ready to be creative. We are looking for people who live within an approx. 1 hour radius of Southampton.

About Sleuth

The successful young dancer will take on the role of Bobby, the young sidekick of world-weary Detective Miller in SLEUTH – an up-close dance theatre mystery show unlike any other, packed with dynamic movement, storytelling, high stakes and tricky characters. The show is presented in 360 Vision – the audience sits on rotating stools to follow the action as it unfolds around them, voting on which clues from the story to follow. Time commitment and tour dates

Rehearsals 

• Sat 3 and Sun 4 Sept (all day) – venue TBC, Southampton
• Thu 8 Sept (eve) – venue TBC, Southampton
• Sat 10 Sept (all day) – Creation Space 101, Newbury 

Rehearsals with full cast

• 13th – 25th Sept evenings and weekends TBC – MAST, Southampton 
• 24th and 25th Sept 2 x  Preview Performances, MAST, Southampton

Performances 

• 7th – 15th Oct – Performances dates and times TBC  – Central Hall Southampton
• 18th – 22nd Oct – 6 performances in Woking
• 25 – 28th Oct (HALF TERM) – 5 performances and rehearsals in Bicester accommodated locally (ideally with a parent/carer) 

Application video brief

• Story Inspiration: Imagine you are in a room searching for something, as you find what you are looking for someone comes in the room and you have to hide it quickly.
• Movement Inspiration: Use the story as a guide and dance as much as you can, we are not looking for mime but how you can dance with a focus. Feel free to add in your favourite moves and show us how you like to dance.

How to apply

To apply to audition please send in a short film no longer than 2 minutes of you dancing and responding to the brief on the ZoieLogic website and, if you have any, some performance footage. You do not need to be in a dance studio, but please make sure we have a good view of your whole body and you are able to move well in the space.
