Our Southampton 2025 Inclusion Pledge

We have partnered with Southampton UK City of Culture 2025 Trust and organisations from across Southampton to make an Inclusion Pledge.

A group of community dancers perform on stage. The background is black and the performers are lit by a cool blue light. One of the performers is sitting to the left and looking at the rest of the group, who look back at her. You can see that they are acknowledging each other and that feels like an important statement

ZoieLogic Dance Theatre has partnered with John Hansard Gallery, University of Southampton, the Southampton UK City of Culture 2025 Trust and organisations from across Southampton to make an Inclusion Pledge.  By committing to our pledges together we are unified in our aim to make Southampton an actively Inclusive City.

We pledge by 2025:

  • We will have people from all 16 wards of Southampton on our Advisory Board.

By the end of 2023

  • We will increase diverse representation on our board to better match the characteristics of the people of Southampton, specifically increasing those who are disabled and from global majority ethnicities.
  • We will develop more sophisticated monitoring systems to collect information on the participants we work with including socio-economic status to inform target setting and to better reflect our progress.
  • We will increase the global majority ethnic diversity of participants across our projects by 3% on benchmarked figures from 21/22 where available, and collate data to set targets where not available.

Our pledges are rooted in a sustained programme of work we are undertaking through our current Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging action plan, including a year long Breakthrough programme with the Arts Marketing Association.

Across Southampton organisations have come together to create meaningful and change-making Inclusion Pledges. The pledges have been created from a series of Inclusion Workshops launched early in 2021, by Southampton 2025 Trust with John Hansard Gallery, University of Southampton as a response to the wider consultation for the UK City of Culture 2025 bid process. All participating organisations took away from the process the skills and learnings to begin the development of meaningful pledges to actively promote inclusivity throughout their organisations.
