Could you be the one to make change in the community of Holyrood?

How does a dance company, a community and local business work together to create significant positive change? The answer is — We Are Holyrood

Changemakers are a network of like-minded businesses coming together to make positive change

Since 2019, ZoieLogic Dance Theatre and the community of Holyrood estate have been on a mission to raise aspirations, create opportunities, challenge perceptions and illuminate the place they proudly call home.

Since the project began, we have brought to life stories of past, present and imagining the future through dance performance, film and social gatherings, all driven by the residents of Holyrood, and across all age groups. To continue this work, we need Changemakers…

Being a Changemaker is an opportunity to:

  • Be actively involved in supporting the Holyrood community and see first hand the difference you will be able to make
  • Come together with a network of like-minded businesses
  • Attend We Are Holyrood related events, including rehearsals, steering sessions and performances
  • Lead the way and demonstrate to others how culture and business can combine to achieve positive social change

Being a Changemaker supercharges our long term ambitions for Holyrood:

  • To ignite the imagination of the next generation, and be unstoppable in what they want to achieve in life
  • To challenge the historical negative perception of the area and residents
  • Empower residents to increase community cohesion on their estate
  • The development of community skills, with the aim of the area becoming its own social enterprise

Being a Changemaker means unlocking the following for residents:

  • New opportunities for residents to get active, be creative and learn new skills
  • Enabling regular creative sessions and projects for young people and adults
  • 121 support roles for young people with extra access needs
  • Reducing barriers to involvement by supporting child care, transport and snack clubs

22 acres of creativity, diversity and pride: This is Holyrood

Set in the heart of Southampton, Holyrood is a tight-knit pocket of social housing built in the 1950s, featuring high-rise flats, terraced houses, green spaces and a community hub.

While social cohesion and pride in the estate does thrive, the community have felt disconnected, forgotten and lacking in opportunities within the wider city. Local authority cuts hit youth services hard, leading to the closure of the Sure Start Centre and the estate’s youth club. Residents are calling for accessible cultural programs to fill the gap and provide vital support for the younger generation, ensuring the estate’s community spirit remains strong.

Holyrood in numbers

  • Over 2,500 residents live on the estate
  • Over 25 different languages are spoken on the estate
  • 32% of young people live in low income families (the city average is 23%)
  • 35% of residents in this area live in the top 20% most deprived areas in England
