ZoieLogic | We Are Holyrood

By Matt Walker and Dev Place
Introduction
The Holyrood Hub is always alive with activity, a place where something exciting is always around the corner. In 2025, we saw silent discos, conversations, art, food, music, and more. Through this visual record, we invite you to revisit the spirit of the event and see just how much unfolded in one extraordinary space.

The Holyrood Hub is an annual, community-led initiative that brings together and celebrates the residents of the Holyrood council estate, located in the heart of Southampton. At its core, The Holyrood Hub is a pop-up space set up on the green in front of Canute House. It features multiple covered areas designed to host performances, film screenings, and a variety of creative activities for the local community.
This year we opened with a silent disco (above) and had our youth company FuzzyLogic (above) perform to residents, plus a special premiere screening (below) of Culture is Life, a music video we made with the young residents earlier int he year.
“I’ve been so excited about The Hub. I’ve just been saying to my mum everyday, it’s The Hub in 10 days, it’s The
Hub in 9 days…”
— Holyrood resident

Striking street art
In the second half of the week, we were thrilled to be joined by local artist Sarah Filmer, who collaborated with residents to transform the estate into a living gallery. Together, they created striking street art on the pavements and suspended handwritten messages to strangers between the trees (below) – whimsical, thoughtful notes that invited passersby to pause, reflect, and connect.

“I’ve been living here for 13 years. This is so good, so good for the kids. My daughter really wants to do the dancing now!”
— Holyrood resident

This year, we welcomed some truly special guests (above) who brought joy, curiosity and a bit of countryside magic to Holyrood. After years of dreaming, we finally brought a farm to the heart of this inner-city estate! Residents of all ages had the delight of feeding goats, sheep, chickens, and more when Ems Friendly Farm rolled in for an unforgettable visit.

Pride and place
All week long, energy was building toward the big finale, the very first Holyrood Parade. In the days leading up to it, residents came together to craft vibrant signs and bold costumes (above), filling the estate with colour, creativity, and anticipation. Then, at 3pm on Saturday, the streets came alive as 60 residents – young and old – marched with pride, filling the air with music, laughter, and cheers, boldly celebrating their love for Holyrood and the community they call home.

“I just moved here. This is so nice ‘cos I didn’t really know what was about. It’s nice seeing the community all out like this. And now I’ll be in the loop. Now I’ve got a friend! (laughs)”
— Holyrood resident

The week wrapped up with a joyful party in the park, hosted by the ever-brilliant DJ Chris and Lee. It was a chance for residents to let loose, dance their hearts out, and celebrate everything they’d created together. Somehow, like all the best parties – it ended in an epic conga line that snaked through the green, followed by a rousing singalong of Culture is Life, the original track written and performed by our talented young residents.
