About the project

We Are Holyrood is a landmark heritage and community engagement programme delivered by ZoieLogic Dance Theatre in the heart of the Holyrood Estate, Southampton, one of the city’s most diverse yet historically overlooked neighbourhoods. This ambitious four-year initiative, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, blends creative arts, youth leadership, public storytelling, and heritage research to reconnect the community with its rich, 700-year history, while amplifying contemporary voices through public art, digital outputs, and community-led events.

Central to the project is ensuring that heritage and place-making activities are of the highest quality, relevant, accessible, and capable of transforming local narratives.

We Are Holyrood

Role purpose

The Creative Producer (Heritage & Conservation) will provide specialist leadership in curatorial direction, public heritage engagement, and conservation across the We Are Holyrood project.

This role ensures that all public-facing outputs, including exhibitions, public artworks, storytelling installations, digital platforms, and legacy resources are produced with respect and consideration of the area’s heritage, while accurately, authentically and carefully reflecting the lived experiences, voices, and histories of residents.

The Creative Producer will work closely with our Community Engagement Manager, freelance Project Managers and the wider ZoieLogic team, offering experienced heritage leadership across all strands of the project. The Creative Producer will ensure the accurate interpretation of Holyrood’s layered history, championing authenticity, community ownership, and inclusive storytelling throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

Heritage leadership & curation

  • Lead on the creative and curatorial direction for all public-facing heritage elements, ensuring they are of high quality, accurate and culturally sensitive.
  • Ensure all heritage research, stories, and narratives are interpreted in line with participatory heritage practices and align with community feedback.
  • Oversee the creative development of exhibitions, heritage trails, audio walks, and street artworks in collaboration with the artistic team and community members.
  • Advise on the use of heritage content in creative outputs, ensuring they are accessible and engaging for diverse audiences.

Project & programme integration

  • Act as a senior member of the We Are Holyrood project delivery team, contributing to project planning, milestones and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with freelance Project Managers responsible for youth engagement, storytelling, and creative production, embedding heritage into each strand.
  • Liaise with the Senior Producer to ensure heritage outputs align with project timelines, budgets and quality standards.

Partnership development

  • Build and maintain partnerships with key heritage organisations including Southampton Archives, Hampshire Cultural Trust and local historians.
  • Act as the main point of contact for external heritage consultants, curators, and specialists brought into the project.
  • Work closely with the Community Engagement Manager to ensure heritage activities remain locally relevant and are co-designed with residents.

Legacy and conservation planning

  • Support legacy planning for all digital and physical heritage assets, ensuring long-term care, accessibility and ownership plans are in place.
  • Provide guidance on archiving, digital preservation and the integration of Holyrood heritage materials into city-wide narratives.

Quality assurance and evaluation

  • Provide quality control and curatorial sign-off on all heritage content and outputs.
  • Support the evaluation of each heritage project, contributing to reporting to The Heritage Fund and other stakeholders.

Essential:

  • Postgraduate qualification (MA or equivalent) in Heritage, Conservation, Museum Studies, or related fields.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and delivering public heritage projects, particularly in community or place-based settings.

  • Excellent project management, organisational, and communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience of heritage-led place-making or regeneration projects.
  • Familiarity with Southampton’s cultural, social, and historical landscape.
  • Experience working within socio-economically disadvantaged or culturally diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of digital heritage tools and platforms.
